Silent Waters, A Conversation of Three

By the river, three birds shared a silent moment. No words needed—just presence. A lesson in being enough without doing more.

By the water’s edge, it seemed like nothing was happening.
But when you look closely, even the smallest motion tells a story.

The gray heron stood still, gazing toward one side.
What was it waiting for?
Or perhaps it couldn't let go of something that had already passed.

At the end of its gaze, a duck sliced through the water.
Alone, but it didn’t seem afraid.
It glided effortlessly across the ripples—
a sight that somehow stirred envy.

On the other side stood a white egret,
glowing as if it lit up on its own.
A calm force in the stillness,
even the stream behind it seemed to flow around it.

The three birds kept their distance
but shared the same time and space.
Without a sound or a word,
they must have sensed each other’s presence.

The river flowed quietly,
stones lay as they always had,
and the birds moved to their own rhythms.

We often try to do too much,
to speak, to achieve, to grasp.
And in the effort, we get tired and breathless.

But today, by the riverside,
I learned a moment where just ‘being’ was enough.

The three birds said nothing.
Yet their silence wrapped this day in warmth.
